This week's challenge at The Studio was all about home...
"There's no place like home... create a page featuring your home. Maybe your favourite spot, the flowers in your garden, or even the leaking pipes under the bath. Just make it an authentic snapshot of your life right now!"
So here's what I made:
As an interior designer I get to talk to people about how they feel about their homes and how they can improve their experiences there. One thing we usually agree on is that the details are what make home special. You can tell so much about a family from their details. So, armed with my camera, I set out the other day to capture some of our details. Everything from a display of my children's artwork to our American flag flying outside. What a fun challenge - I live here and I even learned a few things about us!
I took all of these photos the day I made the layout. It was hard to narrow them down. While I was doing that, I was thinking about the houses I grew up in and the places I've lived and how I wish I had more photos like this. I would love to have a photo of my bedroom from our house in Brooklyn, or my NJ tween walls plastered with photos of Andy Gibb, or even some photos of my first apartment - which was in the coolest old building (why didn't I take photos of that place?!) I'm always interested in the details that are in the backgrounds of our photos. This was a fun way to focus on just them. I have a feeling this is going to escalate into a mini album.
For this project I used mostly my current Studio Calico kit, along with bits and pieces from previous kits and a stamp from Midnight Rooster (the woodgrain medallion - isn't that thing cool?)
I loved seeing the design team's work for this challenge and so will you. Amanda has an awesome prize this month, too - a selection from her new Scrap Rat shop. I just got my order yesterday and wow - loving the little vintage items I picked up. So why not have a go? I'd love to see what you make!
