Return of the wayward mini...

Hi All. Hope you had a great weekend and are busy working on your projects for The Studio ;)

Just a quick Monday update.
Returning this week from an extended vacation in lovely Utah, with brief detour to Kay in Michigan was this:
Kay was awesome enough to track me down via the 2 Peas Pub board (where I'm embarrassed to say I lurk), when our albums got mixed up upon return. She got mine, I got hers. How great it was to see one of the albums I had admired in the magazine in person.

This is my "73 Days", subtitled "Summer of Fun" mini album. '73 Days' refers to the number of days my kids had off that summer. Seems like a long time but it always goes way too fast! I was prompted to make this mini for a Maya Road challenge/contest. It is about 90% Maya Road product, 10% Basic Grey. It didnt' win but went on to be pubbed by ST. It is one of my favorite minis ever. Here are some detail shots:

The opening page: I cut the sun with my Silhouette then sandwiched it in between 2 clear sheets then sewed around. Left some rays sticking out on top.
I added little wallet photos in before the envelope pages.
Here's one of the envelope pages -' restrained'; not a word I'd use to describe this little book.  On these pages, I cut the tops off the envelopes then sewed the bottom and sides. I punched the top with a scallop punch then added photos & embellishments. I made sure the embellishments were pretty flat here, as I wanted this album to close. While I love dimension, I'm not that into lumpy minis & layouts. They just don't store well. Anyway..the envelopes hold more wallet sized photos and ephemera from the event.
(And please excuse my photo experimentation with props - what was I thinking?)
The last page of the book, which you can almost see here, is a calendar page. I downloaded the 3 months (June, July, Aug) from Maya Road, printed them on kraft then filled in the fun stuff with a white pen. I love calendars - I like to write all over them and I save all of them. (I have calendar's back to 1987!) I like to think of them as my 'lazy person's journal'.
When I look at this little book, I remember last summer so vividly. It was a particularly fun time for us and I hope when my kids un-earth this thing 30 years from now, they will remember, too. That's why we do this, right?
Ok, time to stalk the UPS guy who will be delivering my August Studio Calico kit today. Hope he shows early today :)

The cloud paper you like so much it called Citronella Cloudy by K&Company. It's from last summer though. Will check to see if my LSS has any left.

I'm so glad your amazing album made it home safely, and that I got a chance to admire it IRL. Hugs!
