an Ella Challenge

Wow, it's been a while since I did an Ella Publishing challenge - so it was high time I jumped in. It's the first Stretch Your Supplies challenge (there will be 3 in the upcoming weeks.) This week's challenge was to use punches and scraps to make a background. Like most scrapbookers, I have these 2 items in abundance!
Here's what I used:
Working from the colors in the hat in the photos, I selected a chunk of Cosmo Cricket (the green check) and a slice of October Afternoon (the yellow plaid) from the scrap file...

and my Martha Stewart butterfly punch (this is the large/standard) and the EK Success Bumpy Road border punch. Here's my layout:
I used an old Amy Butler paper as the background, then Bazzill kraft on top of that. The letter stickers are Basic Grey (yellow) and American Crafts (green). The journaling stickers are October Afternoon.
It's a little hard to see the stitching on the background, so here's a close up:
The punches and the colors worked out great with these photos of my daughter and her Science Hat Day hat - which we designed around the life cycle of the butterfly. (Note the caterpillars, chrysalis and the mature butterflies made with a pink-slipped Studio Calico stamp I just picked up.)
Thanks so much for looking!

Beautiful lo! I just love the butterflies. Can you explain the Science hat day? I am a pre-k teacher and that just sounds like an incredibly COOL homework assignment! (email: tirzahdawn@yahoo.com)
