Just for fun. I wanted to do the Studio Calico sketch challenge this week because it was simple and clean and I had a single photo I was wanting to scrap. So, I'll save the promised rejected passed over layouts for next week (when I'm 100% certain they are officially out of the running.)
Here's the sketch by Laura Kurz - whose work I have admired for many years:
& here's my layout:I'm squeezing out the last of my Joyland kit for this page and adding in a few extras. Not loving the mist. I love the way it looks when other people use it, but for me, I just can't seem to get it right. The lined paper is American Crafts, the polka dot is MME and how about that awesome Tim Holtz tissue tape? Just scored that at Scrapper's Cove. My love for paper tape is official. Time to his that site with all the washi tapes.
Now, it's time to clean up and get ready for the local church fair. Tonight is the last night and I've promised my kids we are going for sure. If I don't take them, I don't think they will let me live through the night. One good thing about fairs like this, though, is they are great for people watching and picture taking. I plan to do both.

oh, i love this page!! i love how you did the date up at the top - that is awesome!
Hope you all had fun at the fair-love those kinds of places to people watch! Great job with the sketch-what an awesome photo!! The first thing I said to myself when I saw your layout was, wow her misting looks terrific...and then I read on and saw you werent happy with it! :) Im like that with certain techniques too, love them on other people's layouts but not on mine!
I can't seem to get the hang of misting either, so much that it scares me to try it out. I also haven't gotten into the tapes, but after seeing it on this layout, wow, I'm going to have to give them a try too! This layout seems to capture the fun and excitement of what is contained in your photograph, and I can really appreciate you being able to do that. Thanks too for the SC email, I might have to take you up on the offer on my next go round or two-after I figure it into my budget. Love your work, Valerie-have I said that yet? You are such a great inspiration and have such a great attitude.
Great LO! I'm not into misting for the same reason.... :( But then we always judge ourselves too harshly so embrace the fun that they are. (make sense?) Hope you had fun at the fair!!
